Mellow Mushroom Paducah KY
Mellow Mushroom is located in a refurbished Coke plant in the heart of Paducah KY. It is at the corner of Lone Oak Rd. and Broadway. The area is starting to get a face lift and a lot of additional businesses may be moving around this location. The parking is not good and limited to street parking. The bank across the road has a section for neighbor parking but even those spots are limited.
We ate around 11:30 on New Years Day. We could tell from the parking that it wasn’t going to be busy. I don’t think I have ever been there at a time it was really packed and had to wait. I’m sure during dinner times you may have to wait a bit but this particular day we went right in and were seated.
Our waitress was prompt and attentive. Every time we have been there we have had good service from our waitress. I imagine they attract good waitresses as the average ticket would be higher and they have a chance to make better than average tips. She did a great job of keeping our drinks filled and checking on us. She also did a good job of making sure all our menu questions were answered and was very knowledgeable.
We ordered the pretzel appetizer and my youngest wanted meatballs so we ordered a meatball appetizer for him to eat. The pretzels are mouth watering and the marinara to dip in is one of the best I have ever tasted. We also got some garlic butter but it was lacking in garlic. Tasted more like a cup of melted butter than anything. The meatballs did not go over well with my son. He loves meatballs and I have rarely found a place that he would just out right refuse to eat them. But he took one bite and was done. I tried them myself and found them to be hard to swallow. Very dry and the seasoning was just off. I can’t quite tell what it was but they just were not good.
We ordered a large chicken bacon ranch pizza. This is not on the menu but if you tell them they will know how to make it. I’m surprised it is not one of their specialties because when they make a chicken bacon ranch pizza it is unbelievably good. The crust was perfectly cooked and the chicken to bacon to ranch ratio is top notch. Chicken bacon ranch pizzas are one of my family’s favorites and we order them often when we get pizza.
I would give them an 8/10 rating overall. If they could figure out the parking and some of the appetizer issues they could easily make it to 10 out of 10.
